Paul Hannon
Paul Hannon's work is inspired by simple things like shadows,
rusty and weathered surfaces, peeling paint, and significant skies. In
discussing his work, Paul states, "my paintings evolve out of my
appreciation for this place in which I live and includes both the beautiful
aspects of appearances as well as the broken, worn, rugged and unplanned
way that we find things. I continually find that seemingly ordinary objects
and places can be stunningly beautiful when the lighting is great. This
happens everywhere and in my imagery, I reflect my appreciation and response
to this kind of light."
Paul has a B.A. from the State University of New York at Oswego where
he majored in Fine Arts. His training includes studio painting with Elaine
DeKooning as part of the Empire State College "Studio Without Walls" program
in the seventies. Paul represented S.U.N.Y. Oswego at that program. Since
moving to Halifax in 1989, Paul renewed his interest and passion for
painting and has become well known in the Maritimes for his oil paintings,
watercolors and drawings. Paul is represented in numerous public, private
and corporate collections.
We enjoy Paul's vivid palette in portraying our coastal places
and how his paintings reflect his stated appreciation for the "wisdom
and inventiveness of the people who live in these places and who live
off the water."
We invite you to join us at Skipping Stone to view Paul's beautiful
work.
